Class

I started my summer class last night. I like the instructor - she lets us out early. There is no required text, and she is only giving us three assignments. Our first week is almost over, and I have no stress about this class. What a nice class to take during my already hectic summer.

I really am going to try to take things slow and enjoy each day. Today we took Maddy and Jack for a walk. I also painted some more of the garage trim and laid out in the sun while Maddy napped.

We can bathe!

Our new whirlpool tub was installed this afternoon so now we can take baths and use the jets. Steve tried it out. The plumber was barely out the door for the day and Steve was already running the water. I think I'll take a bath later tonight. I just want to shave my legs. :) It's a really nice tub, not as long as our old one, but much deeper. It should be very nice having that especially with sore muscles. Next week is the electrical, drywalling and tiling. We will also have to pick a shade of blue from the 20 paint chips we brought home.

Maddy naps!

We have struggled getting Maddy to take a nap for long periods of time, but this morning I tried something different. When she began to fuss because she was tired, I layed down with her in our bed and nursed her. She fell asleep and has been napping for 2 hours now. She likes our bed, and she's sleeping right through the installation of our new bathtub! So much for tiptoing around the house for the past 2 weeks while she took those 30 minute catnaps. Steve and I will not have to be quiet anymore. I think we'll let her nap in our bed from now on. Of course, at night she will always be put down in her crib, but during the day she's comfy in our bed and I guess that's o.k.

Tummy Time!

Last night I checked on Maddy before I went to bed around 11:30. She was, of course, sleeping. When Steve got home around 4 a.m. he checked on her as well and found her sleeping on her tummy! Somehow during the night she rolled over. He woke me up right away because he wasn't sure what to do. I went in and flipped her over. She was sleeping really hard so she didn't even stir. I was so worried that I couldn't fall back asleep until 45 minutes later when the first birds began to chirp. I really don't want her sleeping on her tummy yet. She's not even 5 months until the end of the month. We might have to consider buying one of those things that prevents babies from rolling over in their cribs if we find that she's doing it a lot. She doesn't really enjoy tummy time during the day, but she'll do it on her own at night!

Bathroom Demolition

They started on our bathroom today. I didn't know that they were going to rip out every wall down to the studs. It is a skeleton. It took them all day to demolish. He said that we may have our new tub in by tomorrow night. That would be nice. I think I might go over to my parent's house tomorrow for a shower and some quiet time with Maddy. After the plumbers left this evening, I spent an hour dusting and damp mopping to get rid of the white film covering half the house. I don't want Maddy breathing that in so we were gone most of the day. Hopefully the messiest part is over, but who knows.

Hair!

I'm losing my hair! As if everything that my body has been through these past 12 months isn't enough - now my hair is falling out as well. I was pretty worried about it at first until I looked up "postpartum hairloss" on the Internet and found several articles discussing how it is common for women to begin losing large amounts of hair after having a baby. Yup, that's me. I have been shedding for a month now and it's everywhere - all over my sheets and pillow, the bathtub drain, the bathroom floor. I find it on Maddy, clenched in her fists, caught in her neck. Yuck. I just pulled a small clump out when I ran my fingers through. This is awful, and I can't wait for it to stop! I've read that my hair should stop falling out by the time Maddy is 6 months old. And I should have recovered from the loss by the time she is a year old. Hope so because this is not fun.

Maddyson Eats Her First Bowl of Cereal!

It seems that most of my posts are about Maddy, but that's because she is changing and doing new things every day. We just adore her and truly enjoy every day. Today we fed Maddy her first bowl of rice cereal. She loved it! She ate every bite. And whined between each one as if I wasn't feeding it to her fast enough. Steve videotaped me feeding her. It was a lot of fun. Then she nursed for another 30 minutes! Hungry girl. We'll give her a bowl of cereal every evening now, and we're also starting some fruit juices this weekend.

Our Tiny Peanut

Our daughter has only gained 2 ounces since her checkup two months ago! We were a little taken back by that. I was expecting 12 or 13 pounds at least. But no, Maddy weighs 10.9 pounds at 4 1/2 months! She is still such a peanut. But she's healthy. She has nice chunky thighs and rolls on her wrists. She is generally a happy baby and sleeps well at night so we can just keep doing what we're doing. The nice thing is we can start her on rice cereal and apple juice now so I'm going to Target to pick those things up tomorrow. We'll try rice cereal first for a few days and then we'll add a bottle of juice every day as well. This should help her gain. We are taking her back in in a month to have her weighed again. Steve says she has a high metabolism like her mom. :)

First Kickball Game - Mark a W For Us!

We played our first kickball game of the summer tonight. We won by a very large margin. No one even bothered to check at the end of the game. The bugs were out and the field needs some maintenance, but we're getting our championship t-shirts from last summer. Bonus!

Asian Moon Festival

Today we took Maddy to her first Asian Moon Festival. It was a gorgeous day so we got pretty lucky with the weather. We ate, shopped and walked around. Right before we left we found a bench right by the water so I could feed Maddy. She was really good. She slept for a bit in her stroller as we walked around. Then she woke up and fussed only a bit because she was getting hungry. We were only down there for a couple of hours, but it was a nice time. I actually burned on my shoulders, which I rarely do, but I have been so sun deprived lately. This evening when we were giving Maddy her bath, I noticed that her arms were also a little red. We have to be more careful about keeping her out of the sun since she can't wear sunblock for another month or so.

Maddy didn't fall asleep tonight while I nursed her for the last time so I rocked her for a little while on the glider in her room. Then I quietly put her in her crib, covered her and left the room. She's been in there for about ten minutes now just "talking" quietly to herself. I'm waiting to see what she's going to do - hopefully she'll fall asleep on her own. That would be a good sign of things to come. If she needs my help falling asleep, I'll probably just take her to bed with me, feed her a little more and then put her in her crib once she's asleep, like old times. The "talking" has stopped. I'll give it a few minutes before I check on her and tuck in the blanket.

Tomorrow is my last day of work! I have to finish packing up my room, filing papers in the cum. folders and taking down my mobiles. Then I'm out of there for a while. Tomorrow Maddy and I have to go to the grocery store to get a double recipe of caramel apple salad for my Aunt Sharon's party on Saturday. I've heard that most of my mom's family will be there, and that's a pretty large clan. This will be the first time that a lot of them will see Maddy and Nathan.

O.k. so she's still awake!

I am soooo excited for my summer vacation. I really don't want to do anything this summer but be with my family. This summer and every summer hereafter will be devoted to Maddy and any other little Au baby that may come along in the future. I have a list of things to do this summer (clean the basement, paint our bedroom, finish the trim outside, etc.) but other than that I am perfectly content spending my days taking walks, playing outside (Maddy already loves being outside), going shopping and anything else that we want to do. I'm taking one class this summer (just a night class) so that won't even take away my days with Maddy. I really need these 10 weeks off. I need to rest my body as well as my mind. It will really do me some good, and I should be refreshed and ready for another school year come September. Maybe.. :)

Another Maddy Milestone

Maddy has found her feet! She sees them and is starting to grab her toes. I think she'll be pulling them to her mouth soon.
